SEO, Search Engine Optimisation, is a process that has the goal of letting a website rank in prominent positions on Google and the other SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages).
Achieving this result requires a number of techniques and strategies, and particularly if the niche or the market is very competitive, it can be very difficult.
I’ve seen so many small business owners who have invested a lot of money (or time, or both of them) in creating a website, which does not give them anything back.
This website behaves as if it was a business card, passively waiting for them to show it to someone, who may like it or not, get a good or a terrible first impression.
A website, instead, should go actively fetching you new leads (sales, contacts) from Google, by ranking on the top positions of it for the specific keywords that your target audience is looking for.
The problem is that there is an incredibly high number of competitor websites, trying to rank for the same keywords as you are and the positions on the first page of Google are just ten.
It won’t happen by chance. You won’t get them if you are not strategically aiming for them with a good SEO plan.
Another thing that I always repeat in my SEO for beginners courses is that you may even get really some organic traffic from Google by chance, but it won’t be your best-targeted traffic. Not the one that you would love the most.
Unless you actively work on it with some Search Engine Optimisation, you may be found by visitors who are searching for something else, by mistake. And once they realise the mistake, they will close the site and bounce back to Google, which is a very bad signal for Google’s new algorithm, Rankbrain.
So my first tip in SEO for beginners is to know your audience. Know what they want and need, which words they use. Give them those words and those contents in an easy and engaging way.
Make sure Google can crawl extremely well your site and the technical requirements are all perfectly compliant and optimised. You may need the help of a professional to do this and to discover exactly which keywords do your target audience use, when, how and how many times.
Finally, get linked back from relevant good quality websites.
In the articles of this category, you will find all this explained much better, in order to make SEO for beginners something easy to grasp and understand.
